The conference was opened by the Minister Assisting the Victorian Premier on Multicultural Affairs Mr John Pandazopoulos.
Translation and Interpreting: Risks and Rewards was cohosted by Monash’s School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics and the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators at Monash’s Caulfield campus. It featured keynote addresses by translation theorist Professor Anthony Pym from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Spain; and translator, lexicographer and theorist Dr Kevin Windle from the Australian National University.
In closing the conference, Dr Rita Wilson remarked on the conference’s success in generating new ideas by crossing disciplinary boundaries: “An especially positive feature of the conference was that it provided an ideal forum for the sharing of knowledge about research and practice in translation and interpreting."
